Hey Koen?
I have an extra copy of a great auction catalouge feat. only Poul Kjærholm. It's packed with large photos of just about everything he's ever designed incl. rare prototypes, never before seen one-off custom designs etc. It's a really nice layout too. Since you didn't see the excellent Kjærholm exhibition at Louisiana, then this might cheer you up 🙂
I could mail it to you if it sounds interesting.

Dear Bosslady
I had no intention to be rude by not answering your question, but I spend some time on the other side of the atlantic with not enough time to participate in DA. Olive gave you already the relevant information on the professional "me". Beyond that I am not unlike the rest of humanity and as such I only have a vague idea of whom I am. Although it might become too personal as a sobering comment from Vivienne points out, but I might ad that I am not all that interested in who I am. I am more interested in the contributions one can make in the different layers of community we are part of. To do it with care and perseverance and without fear, anger or sadness leaves very little time for such things as "who am I".
Which brings me to James Collins' question...If you send your address to contact@designaddict.com I am sure I will get it...and I will send you one.

Koen is...
a civilized man with a humane, rational philosophy, thorough training in the mastercraftsman tradition of Europe, and the taste, skill, talent, will and business insight to design useful, beautiful artifacts informed by his philosophy. As they say in sports, he has the whole package, whether he says so or not, and whether he chooses to showcase center stage or out of the limelight. And the wonder is that he is willing to play Yoda to so many younger designers, rather than pontificate like some narcissistic cult leader. He will even indulge a nonprofessional like me.
So few in this world really know what they are doing, and among those who do, only a few of those are articulate enough to make what they know comprehensible, and among those, only one or two at any given time have designed their life well enough to permit them the time to act as a wise man to the young. What he is doing on the internet at this site is as original and I suspect thought out, as his artifacts. We get the benefit of his experiment. There have always been Yodas in every profession. But today's internet is the first time it has ever been technologically feasible for them to engage with a broad community of younger professionals.
Don't be fooled by the affable humility, the man has a light sword inside his cape.
If only George Lucas had known him and asked him to design Yoda's digs. Now that would have been one beautiful, functional off-planet earth home that would have looked at once new and as if it had been there forever.

Hi Koen!
You sent me some red plastic coat hooks a couple of years back, that I proudly use in the kitchen of my Florida condo. I've misplaced the designers name, and have looked in the design index, etc. Any Ideas? They are wonderful. Many thanks,

Hi Mark...
Nice to hear that they are still useful!. The designer is the Autrian born Olaf Von Bohr. Other than the pieces he did for Kartell his most known work was done for Olivetti where he was responsible for quite a number of exquisite exhibition designs. I am glad I was able to send them to you

THAT'S IT!
Thank you Koen! I saw a green one in an old Dwell? magazine. I find it an excellent design as I am able to hang items both over the top, and still use the center peg (which as you know is part of the wall attachment). Foolproof design. I use the hell out of em. Thank you again. Holiday best, Mark

Video
Hello all,
We are quite sure that many of you will be interested in seing the video made by students of the "Université de Montreal" when they visited Koen's Atelier Orange. One can see and hear Koen explaining (in French) the manufacturing process of his recent objects in stoneware and porcelain.
Obviously very interesting!
See link below.
Koen has just written three biographies of designers which he personally knew (Kaj Franck, Sigvard Bernadotte and Stig Lindberg). We have just added them in the index. If you have good photographs of products from these designers, don't hesitate to contact us so that we can add them to their pages.contact@designaddict.com
