After a new sofa, maybe two, for my lounge as the current sofa's are very comfortable but modern and not really to my liking.

Any ideas? I would love a Knoll or Vitra sofa in a grey hopsack but fear the cat will ruin it! So it probably has to be leather.

Was thinking of Robin Day's forum sofa and maybe a lounge chair where the 2 seater currently resides? - Two sofas look a bit cluttered and I'd like some more space..

Any help would be great, cost isn't too much of a factor.

Between $4000-8000 per sofa? More if I really like.

Nick
I'd get something with really tight proportions, low in the back, and high off the ground. Those sofas you've got are SO heavy! I'd avoid the Goetz - too high backed and too heavy. If you get fabric you just need to be vigilant with the spray bottle to keep the cat off. Its a pain in the ass for the first month or so, but they learn pretty quickly. Two armless sofas would flow around the corner a little better and look less cluttered. I love the Forum sofas - but I think the wood edges would block off space in an already small room.

I also really love the Divina sofa by Knoll - so perfectly simple!

Thanks Lucifer, your thinking right along my lines. I agree r.e the Forum, also I have 3 items of rosewood in the room so the wood would clash.
These are a couple I was considering below..

This Wegner is nice, although maybe a little too high and 'clinical' for my room..

Decisions! I would prefer to buy vintage really, or at least a few years old. I like the LC 5 a lot though..

Really like the Forum,...
Really like the Forum, comfortable too, (I sat in the habitat version) only issue for me is having it against a wall hides the wood and dovetail joints (for me one of its best features)

Pete, I totally agree. I really would love an 'open plan' lay out but space doesn't provide that. I think for this reason, and the wood match the forum is out of the equation.

I love the Divina as well. I would suggest getting a really spectacular setee or lounge for the two seater rea to open it up.
Perhaps getting a classic form for the main sofa and maybe a marshmallow, some kind of Danish setee, swan setee for the other space

A Nelson sling sofa would be great. They come on two or three seater and they are in leather. Maybe a Sling sofa in black and a Marshmallow sofa in white leather?

Nick...I had the same problem
I have been looking for a sofa too (much discussed here).
In terms of crisp beauty, here's my suggestions:
- Poul Kjaerholm/ PK sofa (very expensive)
- George Nelson/ Sling Sofa (diiscontinued but they're around)
- Charles and Ray Eames Sofa (the 1984 one)
- Arne Jacobsen/ Sofa
- Florence Knoll/ Sofa
- Mark Goetz/ Sofa
- La Corbusier/ LC2 or LC3 sofa
- Josef Hoffman/ Kubus sofa
Those are the most crisp sofas, regardless of price.

Whitespike:
I have never seen a Nelson Sling 2-seater.
Also, it's no longer available; Herman Miller (stupidly) discontinued it a number of years ago.

yeah, i know
but it was said that vintage is preferred and you see these around often enough - for much less than the buget (2500-3500 from what i remember).

This link has a Hans Olsen sofa in rosewood similar to my own, big pictures but well worth a look.
I'd say buy vintage, with that amount of money you're sure to get something good and you could probably get a bargain if you wait and take something on with awful upholstery, at least then you get to choose.

I like the Hans Olsen, I had a matching arm chair of his once - lovely quality. As Barry knows I'm a huge Nelson fan, but not sure a Sling will go too well? I'm thinking along the Knoll/Wegner/Divini styles. I'd like a lounge chair for the two seater space but not sure it would look right there? Hmm decisions.
