Bertoia wire mesh dinner plates...
but they make an awful mess. 🙂
Actually, I enjoy most any old California ceramic dishes from Franciscan. The patterns are always kind of cheery in a southern California sort of way.
I also like Michael Graves stuff at Target, though it is pretty poor quality.
Good flatware cheap dishware
Richard Meier for Swid Powell flatware. Beautiful quality, perfect balance, great style. Matte black asian-inspired dishware from Target. Looks great and tolerates daily use and abuse. I've also got some gorgeous raku fired japanese stuff that I only haul out occasionally as it has to be handwashed. I've got one vintage Russell Wright platter that holds the feasty-beastie. BTW, we tried brining our turkey this year. It was amazing, delicious and down-right astounding. Got the recipe from Alton Brown's Good Eats on Food Network. I recommend it 1000%
I have a particular...
I have a particular affection for Fiesta Ware since my Grandmother has a ton of it. As tacky as that lovely lady is, it's the only thing I could aesthetically appreciate in her house as a kid. It looks even better in numbers like she has. Although I know it's just a dimestore product from the 40s-50s, the personal sentiment and the fact it reflects the time period I enjoy makes it a fun choice for me.
Does anyone know if the Russell Wright reissues are still available at Target?
After Thanksgiving, I decided...
After Thanksgiving, I decided to trade up my Fiesta Ware set for some vintage stoneware I found. It's sort of a brighter version of the Lava line by Porsgrund.
I like the Fiesta Ware -- even the rotund pitcher it came with. And except for the butter dish, the set has been virtually indestructable.
Still, I found that the dark cobalt made a bland canvas behind the food. Or maybe it was that turkey. That unbrined turkey...
Call of the classic
Nein on the Russel Wright at Target, I think.
Eva Zeisel, if only they C&B re-issue was in black...
YULETIDE EMERGENCY! HELP!
Anybody got any great ideas for a 2-year old who has quite an evolved eye for dinnerware? This young femme is decerning in her choices. Utensils are employed for muffins, soup and M&M's. I've given a full line of 'Hello Kitty', but somehow we need more. That je'ne se quai (sp?) that makes Mac & Cheese a Michelin 5-star experience. Anyone?
Teema is a classic...
indeed, and Kaj Franck a bright but very descrete designer. We have used Ruska from Arabia for the last 35 years and we have not lost many pieces. Mono cutlery was our choice than and it has served us well. On better occasions we use Hadeland (Norway) glases but only when we know that they will not be broken....for all other occasions...whatever Ikea has to offer...
Hey, I like this thread...
Hey, I like this thread considering that I am currently in the market for some new(or not so new) dinnerware. I currently have some stoneware from Bed, Bath, and Beyond...I think. It was s present when I got my own apartment in college. I still use it and all, but I'd like something a bit nicer and more fitting my mid-century style dining room furniture when I have company over. Actually, my kitchen and dining room are open together with a bar between them. The wall colors are a light blue with one dark royal blue wall in the kitchen. Kitchen cabinets are white. The other colors in the rooms are red, dark orange, emerald green, and a yellowy-gold color. I want some dinnerware with a definite modern-style to it. No stoneware since that's what I already have. The furniture in the dining room is danish teak. Thanks.
