On the priority list of jobs for the renovation of our 1950 rambler in the Washington DC area, addressing the refurb of the fireplace is pretty far down on the list. So for now, I have a wood mantel and no idea what to put on it. Currently it has one lonely hippo and a rotating assortment of keys and mail. So I'd love some inspiration: What's on your mantel? And how is it arranged/grouped?
Well
a danish puzzle
a Marc Creates 1970's wall sculpture
3 pictures of my infant son eating broccoli
a pair of bookends from Oregon's TREE'S OF MYSTERY (you have to be an Oregonian to understand)
by and by, my house, a 1949 ranch w/ a sandstone brick fireplace surround, did NOT have a mantle, so I had one built out of native Oregon Walnut. And yes, it is nice.
Not so much on a mantel but j...
Not so much on a mantel but just a shelf in the kitchen, I collect anything that catches me eye, theres about 4 shelves worth of this sort of stuff up in cupboards, it gets rotated..atomic coffee thing, Stelton, Welch, Lax, nice bits of wood, candlesticks, glass, dried seed pods...something to look at when I'm washing up, its not this gloomy usually, a bulb just blew.
What nice arrangements
Thanks to everyone for posting. I'm starting to think the small-scale hippo can stay if I beef him up with some larger items in various sizes.
None of your arrangements pictured look cluttered, which is what I would worry about with that many objects on a mantel. woodywood, I love the fun with scale on your shelf.
