Brent-- why fight it?
I see it as an opportunity.

#238 Desk
Sticker inside center drawer has partially rubbed off on the top so I cannot see the manufacturer's name. It does say that the mahogany was grown only in the West Indies, the Tropics (can't really read it well), and West Coast Africa. This was part of my parent's bedroom suit that they had when they got married in 1946. The sticker is a gold color and has a red and black trim on the outer edge. Actually, I'm not sure it's even a "sticker." It looks like a painted stamp or something.

Wow! I wish I had read further down!
This is so funny! I wanted to say that my desk was really not very attractive, but I didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings out there. My mother actually "anitqued" it back in 1970, and it's horrible looking! I just wanted to see if it was worth refinishing! After I got to the bottom of all the comments, I was pretty much enlightened! (and entertained! 🙂

Marylee
Bless you for reading through and realizing what so many others didn't. I'm the originator of this evil thread, and I've taken a holy vow to destroy it. So please excuse the following...

Yoiks.
I paid no attention to this thread until now. " Just go down to your local antique store bend over and hope for vaseline." The row of agonized/tortured/outraged faces is worth three of anything else.
Will anyone know if I make up a number and pretend to have a piece of mahogany furniture ? I hate to be left out. . .!

SDR--
You've exercised admirable restraint in not opening this thread until today.
You're sort of like that WW2 Japanese soldier, who didn't surrender until 1974.

Yup --
that's me.
Next year I might break down and get my first swell phone. . .!

Swell phones are handy things--
they eliminate the need for wrist watches and camera bags. Of course, I seldom use the phone feature.

I have a bureau with mirror and dresser with the above number in top drawer. Has label from Mahogany Assoc. as shown in other postings. Bought in the Chicago area in 30's. This forum is a hoot!

What has..
Bob Gibson "the hoot" to do with your Mahogany Association number. This is a forum on design issues, serious ones, that is, and not on baseball...by the way I have a number 124, so if you find a 126 we have a series of three...or should we call that a strike?

It is a strange thread.
But it does come up in a Google search. (Mahogany A #)

You could go back and edit that first post?
With something silly?
Only you can edit me thinks?
