#238 Desk
Sticker inside center drawer has partially rubbed off on the top so I cannot see the manufacturer's name. It does say that the mahogany was grown only in the West Indies, the Tropics (can't really read it well), and West Coast Africa. This was part of my parent's bedroom suit that they had when they got married in 1946. The sticker is a gold color and has a red and black trim on the outer edge. Actually, I'm not sure it's even a "sticker." It looks like a painted stamp or something.
Wow! I wish I had read further down!
This is so funny! I wanted to say that my desk was really not very attractive, but I didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings out there. My mother actually "anitqued" it back in 1970, and it's horrible looking! I just wanted to see if it was worth refinishing! After I got to the bottom of all the comments, I was pretty much enlightened! (and entertained! 🙂
Yoiks.
I paid no attention to this thread until now. " Just go down to your local antique store bend over and hope for vaseline." The row of agonized/tortured/outraged faces is worth three of anything else.
Will anyone know if I make up a number and pretend to have a piece of mahogany furniture ? I hate to be left out. . .!
