OK, I wasn't going
to be the one to bring this thread back to the forefront, but now that it's here, let me tell you this story.
So, my son is getting married in two weeks. The rehearsal dinner is in my house in South Carolina. In order to make room for all of the people inside for the party, I have been clearing out four rooms of furniture.
Last week, I was clearing out the living room and I picked up a leather-topped drum table and the drawer slid out. Lo and behold, there was a MA # inside. I DROPPED the table like it was possessed with any number of demons and screamed like a girl. Then I had a good laugh at myself.
Seriously, I haven't even really noticed that pair of tables for about 15 years. All of these years that I have been giving Brent sh*t about this thread and here I was harboring two of the culprits in my own house!
#3877 scratched above the label
I have a chippendale table that belonged to my parents. It has a sticker and says Genuine Mahogany. It's a chippendale dining table that opens to seat about 10 people by adding insertable boards or folds to seat 4 by taking out the boards. My best guess is that it was made in the 1930's as I'm 63 and my brother & sister (twins) are 70. They remember the table from their childhood. There is a number above the sticker #3877. I crawled under the table but the sticker is so old, I can't make out the number. I see where it says "number" but I don't know what it is. Possibly a magnifying glass will help me but I don't think it says 3877.
I've been trying to find the value of the table. My Mother ruined it in the 60's when her Garden Club got on a kick of painting all their furniture white. I have a feeling that if it were stripped to it's natural dark mahongany color that I remember, it would be quite valuable.
Can anyone help me find out more about the table?
Thank you.
Carol

I wonder if Brent still has his kidney-shaped mahogany coffee table.
Or has it suffered from a few kickings? I'd like to see a pic of it Brent.
...in a cerimonial burning. ; )
With the 'inter-google', (my dad's term), so large, so much information
(that is often wrong), impatience sets in. Clearly only the first few posts are
read and the reply button is right there. Not many are interested in further
research.
Goggle 'Mahogany Association'. This thread is the first hit.
At the risk of being the Mahogany Association thread killer--
I've often wondered why Brent hasn't simply edited his initial post-- or maybe insert his red sign. Seems the obvious solution, if one really wants it to go away.
But, maybe we'd actually miss it. It serves as a certain comic relief.
