Any chance that the original...
Any chance that the original leather is hiding underneath the Abominable Snowman?
$650 (plus juice and tax) doesn't sound like the best deal for one of the less-interesting Gillon frames without the original leather or quality replacement. Then again, I understand that there is a similar one for sale for $3K in NYC.
Now if one like this had popped up . . .
I think we can be pretty sure...
I think we can be pretty sure this chair is actually Italma and designed by Gillon. Which is to say not Lafer.
Treadway Toomey sold one with leather upholstery, and while they didn't show a photo of the label they clearly indicate that it is labeled Italma and Jean Gillon.
Now I don't know much about Treadway Toomey and whether they are reliable at making difficult attribution where there is little or no reference material, but I think we can rely on their statement that a piece is labeled and signed.

Italma
There are two Italma/made in brazil labels on the inside frame of the chair. This is Gillon's company. Unfortunately, they don't appear to be in business anymore (or, at least, they don't have a website.) I think that it is a marriage ? the shag looks too new in comparison to the armrests, which are somewhat worn.
