What is a fair market price for 1970s Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman ?
Ballpark numbers are all I ask, just to make sure the deal is in the ballpark.
Please state 3 prices: Poor, Average, Mint.

Why? It's a very simple question.
Did I violate some ethics code here?
Is MONEY an evil word in a place where people spend $3000 on a chair?

Simple answer, HK.
Fair market value is whatever the seller can get for it.
And, FWIW, hitting online chat boards for advice doesn't really count as "due diligence".

What price range do most sales generally fall within?
Is $3500 a good price for a nice condition vintage Eames and Ottoman?

Ok, how do you suggest I do my "due diligence" in determining a fair price? A chair is being sold for $8000. How do I determine if that's a good price or not without asking a chat board filled with furniture people?

I already did. Ebay is often not a reliable gauge for low volume items.
I am seeing several Eames going for $1800 to $2200 (in decent shape)
I have a feeling an offer of $2000 will be laughed at.
School me on prices, please !

dude....you are over thinking it... make them an offer. they will likely counter and so will you (this is called the dance) and hopefully you will both settle on a price that works.

Yes, but this doesn't account for delusional dreamer sellers.
Aaking $8000 for a torn up chipped up chair.
I offer $2000.
He counters with $7000.
I counter with $6000.
He counters with $6500.
We agree on $6300.
Did I get a good deal ?

If someone is delusional, then they are delusional. If they see a lounge and ottoman being sold on 1st Dibs in midtown Manhattan for $8000, and think that means they can sell their own chair in Oklahoma on Craigslist for the same price, then they are not going to be convinced otherwise until enough time goes by with no inquiries that they realize they are going to have to lower their price. Until then they may laugh at anyone who offers them what the same chair is selling for on Ebay, or at the local vintage shops.
I see very nice rosewood examples for sale from time to time at local vintage shops, and the price spread I see reflected in the Sold Items section on Ebay seems pretty accurate to me at giving a ballpark idea of how much money I would have to put out if I wanted to buy one.

Did we not just do this with you, HouseKebab a year ago?
You got skewered then, and you will get skewered now. Sorry.
If you really want to ask for impossible answers outside the bounds of the forum's etiquette you should probably provide us with some entertainment. Better than your skewering. Way better.
We could use some entertainment.

Impossible? LOL. Perhaps if you're brain damaged.
For normal IQ people, it's a very simple and straightforward question.
"What's a fair market price for an Eames chair from the 1970s?"
It's not rocket surgery.
Perchance, what pretentious Grey Poupon-wannabe etiquette is being violated, my old chap?

THCP, so what's a basic price range for a private sale on a 70s example in good shape?

Here are 3 recent sales of 1970s Eames. $2100, $2300, and $2400.
Were these unusually good deals, or is this about the market is?
