I just picked up this great set of 10, dated 1979 'Time-Life' chairs and have been looking around online to see what they might be worth and have seen prices ranging from $500-$1500 each, but all have been leather, so I don't have much of an idea what the value of these would be. any help would be appreciated as well as the value of the table.
thanks
At the risk of sounding snippy:
as a seller, you should already recognize that the "worth" of something is highly subjective and dependent upon who's selling it... where they're selling it... even when they're selling it.
Offhand, I think it's safe to assume that fabric-upholstered versions of this chair would sell for less than the leather.
You might do better offering them individually--
the pool of buyers shopping for a set of ten office chairs has got to be tiny, compared to those shopping for one.
(Also-- I hope you're using a reserve? Starting ten chairs at a penny seems risky, a low starting price should be used only if you're confident that there's a big audience for your item-- how many people are shopping for TEN chairs?)
eeghh
Unfortunately the Time-Life chairs aren't the most desirable of the Eames. Interesting historically, but not really timeless in the manner of the Alu group. I would say the fabric factor also brings that down further. Lots of folk will avoid fabric as being icky/dirty/whatever. Set a decent reserve on one and see what happens. Echoing the sentiments that a set of 10 is a big gamble - the chair is uber specific, you either love it or you hate it.
Gee...
it seems there was "an error in the minimum bid or reserve amount." Too bad for those who wanted to bid.

Update: the 10 are going to a well-known LA based store that will fully restore and cover them in some very interesting materials.
also, I've been sitting in one at my computer for the last week and it is by far the most comfortable mid century chair that I've ever owned (that says a lot!)
