I drive up to the house I have a meeting at this morning. Looked cool form the outside. I walk in and my jaw drops...Eames red leather side shell chairs sitting around a Rosewood MCM table, Eames leather lounger sitting in the family room, so on and so forth. Everywhere I looked throughout the house was cool Danish & MCM furniture in pristine shape. Even the 3 and 5 year old had their own awesome little chairs.
The woman makes cakes for a living, but she said her family owned furniture stores when she was a kid. Then she goes on to tell me she has a 1200 sq. ft. out building full of the stuff and that she'd be into barter for work to get rid of some of the items. First off she mentions she has a real nice Drexel Hi-Fi stand...my eyes light up! "I'll take it", I said. I've been looking for a Hi-Fi stand for the last year or so.
I start on Tuesday and after I'm done for the day i get to peruse the out building to see what I may want in trade. I'll be salivating all day waiting for that moment! I'll have camera in tow and I'll post pics.

I'm sitting here trying to find some info on the Drexel Hi-Fi. I've found some pics, but not much info. I need to figure out how much it's possibly worth to do a decent barter. I know many consoles aren't really worth much.

I decided against the Hi-Fi. I decided to go with the Cherry Drexel China cabinet and a matching Schnadig club chair and sofa that goes with the Schnadig lounger I am presently reupholstering. There's also a Rosewood queen size bed I'll be working towards.
The out building is a total mess, so it was just about impossible to get a decent picture of anything. Every piece I looked at was under a tarp and I could only step back like a foot or so from each. Not exactly conducive to a decent pic. I'd have to say there were about 30-35 pieces in the building. All of them are in good to excellent shape other than a couple glass surfboard table tops that were broken.
She does have two of these desks in excellent shape, so one of these will be coming home with me as well.

I found the same desk that so...
I found the same desk that sold for $450 and was supposedly in "wonderful" shape, but was also in the NY/Bos. area...inflated quite a bit more then here in A2. In our area I was going to see if I could get away with $300-350 in bartered trade. The one I'm going to get has a couple small water marks on the top, but all in all it's in great vintage shape. A little Howard's Feed-n-wax then the Teak will pop to. I opened it up on Friday to take a closer look. That thing is like a solid wood Transformer! Talk about articulated!
I'm pretty excited to get all the pieces home. Schnadig Club chair & sofa, Drexel China Cabinet and the Teak desk. The last time I wandered through I came across a Danish Modern Teak & Metal Planter, Rosewood Queen Bed and a Teak Hanging Lamp that I'm going to see about as well.
My profession is a plasterer/painter/wood refinisher, but in slow times I'll do just about anything short of shoveling shit and taking shit, so as to make the ends meet. Most of the barter work I've done for this woman so far has been extremely mundane...I've spent 7 hours putting together IKEA gear and arranging her new office. So 7 hours that normally would've been spent with me at home with no work has now turned into our new sofa and club chair. Not a bad trade/barter deal in my eyes.
Pics will come as soon as the items trickle into the house.
