With Frank's you need to make sure you order enough for all the chairs that you will need to do in one go. This is so that you get all the same cord. If you order later, it might come from a different lot or a different supplier, and the color, size, and texture can be inconsistent.
This is probably true in general with any supply, but definitely true with Frank's.

Those look pretty good! The ones from Frank's don't have flattened heads. They're also a slightly larger gauge so they don't fit into the old holes nicely and may contribute to splitting the wood.

There is a 4 stamped under one of the arms. (No number under the other arm). Does anyone know the significance of this?

A CH23 (and pretty much any dining chair seat with that weave) requires 2 lbs of cord. Actually it's a little less than 2 lbs---I think you may be able to get 6 chairs out of 11 lbs---maybe even 10---but I have never done precise weighing along the way to determine exactly how much I use. I'm doing a set now---guess it would be a good time to check it.
There was an explanation just recently in another thread about the significance of the incised single digit on Wegner chairs....
Found it. According to Carl Hansen, the single digit identifies the carpenter who made the chair. See post #18 in this thread: http://www.designaddict.com/forum/Identification/Finish-and-Mark-Early-W...

Interesting. Thanks for all the info Spanky. I would love to know '4's name and years he worked. I'll try to find out from the factory. I found a picture of one of the weavers.

OOPS---a CH23 does not take a little less than 2 lbs of cord! I am doing a set now and I weighed the coil of cord before and after doing one complete chair. Granted, I cram as much cord as possible into the weave (tamping it tightly on the sides as I go) so you might get away with a little less than this if you weave more loosely. The total weight for one of mine is 2.1 lbs, or just under 1 kilo.
I was thinking of Møller chairs---I have gotten 6 chairs out of 10 lbs or so in the past, I think. But of course the CH23 has the extra wraps on the sides so it uses more. Sorry about misstating that!

A diamond weave also takes a lot more cord than a Møller seat.
A Møller armchair takes a bit more than 2 pounds. They are wider.
The way Bramin wove a seat must take more too.

Yeah, I"m gonna try to remember to check the weight next time I do a wishbone and also a Møller side chair.
Oh, also, this was with paper cord from H.H. Perkins, which is very close---maybe the same---density as old Danish cord.

I got a reply back from Carl Hansen customer service manager to my question about the identity of '4' : This chair is produced in 1955 or a few years later. The number is the signature from the carpenter. We do not know the name of the carpenter.
