I picked up a Dr. Friedrichs Weather station that is very nicely designed (see the pic), but is not very accurate. Any one know of any modernist designs for weather stations that are cool looking AND work well?
Yes, I know, in the age of weather.com who needs it, but I just like a weather station in the kitchen in the early morning when I make my pot of coffee.
Thank you...
Both are up my alley. The Jensen is all business, but the price staggers me. Starck has more spice and less price. The Jensen will probably outlast Stonehenge, though.
Design question: In the internet era, when weather information is at ones finger tips on one's PC and one's cell phone, does it make sense to be designing battery powered weather stations, or other information appliances, even clocks, unless they are powered by solar cells? One of the practical reasons for having a weather station, for instance, in the present day, is for when the power goes out. The last thing one wants is an electric cord-powered appliance in a power outage. But the next worse thing is a battery powered appliance, unless it has a hand crank generator attached. My Dr. Friederichs weather station, the one that isn't sufficiently accurate for my taste, will work in an emergency power outages situation. I'm starting to wonder if all these electric cord and battery powered devices that duplicate what you can get out of your PC, laptop, or cell phone, are not functional archaisms, regardless of how elegant and contemporary the styling is. I realize that most of these products are being sold more as practical amusements than as functional necessities, but, still, if we're going to have practical amusements, ought they not be practically amusing when you most need them? Kind of thinking out loud here.
Strange question ...
Yes, all that information is maybe availble by PC, but...
I prefer go to my window, watch at my weather station that is measuring the air just on the other side of my window, telling me the exact temperature on that specific place, at that moment, then decide what I will wear that day, than ....
... go to my home office, turn on my PC, wait... Than go to ask some aworld wide weather service what is the temperature in the nearest big city to my small european village. Sorry, what WAS the temperature, because it is not a real-time information.
I love my Jensen weather station 😉
