I was in DWR in Boston a few months back and they had this giant black and white photo of all of the the most prolific mid century furniture designers standing side by side. I've searched far and wide online and cannot find this photo for the life of me! if you've seen it and know where to find it please let me know and post the link.
thanks

Perhaps...
You are referring to the 1961 Playboy spread?

Treadway Galleries had this one in one of their catalogues.

the catalog
last season.
I get them for some reason. Even the fancy wood-grained little ones.
I recall the catalog with the photo.
It was a great photo so i must have saved it.
If you can't find it call or stop back by the dwr showroom.
Oh, sorry, call DWR. The showroom people in NYC did not know who
anyone was, designer etc...useless sales folk.
A few phone calls could get the photo.
I have family visiting this weekend so if i saved it i will find it in the
clean up and pass it on...

Playboy
The DWR photo was from Playboy. (back when people only read it for the..ahem...articles). Rumor has it that the photo licensing cost DWR a fortune.
The NYC showroom people are always a little flaky. They gave me the dirtiest look when I sat in the womb chair. However, the folks in the store here in Cambridge are extremely nice - and they know their stuff!

Doubtful that Nelson
Doubtful that Nelson was added in afterwards. The composision of the photo would fall apart if he were missing.

I also doubt that Nelson was added later. That would be some pretty tricky photo editing, especially for the time.

I have always wanted this Playboy issue. Several vintage shops in my area sell vintage Playboy, but I have never found this one.
This is one issue I can actually say that I would buy for the article! I do have a few other vintage issues, and I do love the old advertisements in them. Playboy tends to attract the kind of smarmy advertising I like ... cars, smokes, drinks.
There are a few other neat vintage issues, several of which display clssic chair designs on the cover.

If you have the original...
If you have the original picture, look at him and you'll see. He's out of focus/blury.
I'm not saying that he was an aftertought. I think that he didn't make it for the shoot and was added later.
You have to see what an old school slide manipulator could do those days.
