I picked up this chair at a local Salvation Army a couple of years ago for $1.25 and a family member immediately recognized what it was. It's not in pristine condition and could be restored, but I never knew if this would devalue an item such as this. The tags and stamping are in nearly perfect condition and fully legible. Any idea of the year range that this was created?

Hi
Would you mind measuring the diameter of the base, where it sits on the floor? I think the later versions are cast with BR50, on the 17 inch diameter arm shell type bases, and BR51 on the smaller, 13.5 inch diameter, armless tulip versions.
I agree this should be the early version with the alcoa name cast into the base.
Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the info.
I was wondering if the tulip bases were all the same diameter, but they are not.
I just found a beat up arm chair version, that I was going to use for a base. It has the larger base, and the armless tulip of yours is slightly smaller. I have the smaller measurement from the swivel stool at 13.5 inch diameter.
So apparently there are 3 sizes of tulip bases.
arm chair 17 inches dia, x 13.5 tall, with BR50 cast marking on later ones
armless chair 15.5 inches dia, BR51 cast marking on later ones
swivel stool 13.5 inches BR51 cast marking
