Hi DA forum-folks! My first post.

I am thrilled to have recently acquired 7 Panton chairs. These are the ones most of you are familiar with - cover chair of Taschen's '2000 Chairs' book. Mine are the injection molded versions signed in the mold and made by Herman Miller.

(sorry - don't know how to post a photo)

But I have a problem...

My new 'collection' is composed of a color assortment different than that which I would prefer. My chairs currently are:

2 - white
2 - blue
2 - yellow
1 - red/orange

I'd rather that they were all in the red/orange color.

They just look a bit too 'cheerful' in the current multiple-color mode. A single color would be rather more sophisticated and more in line with what I'm going for.

So... Anyone have any ides on where I could possibly swap chairs with someone who prefers a different color palette?

I'm open to any ides that leave me with at least six of the red/orange chairs.

Whaddya think? Can anyone help?

Molto thanks!

- George

I think your best bet would...
I think your best bet would be to sell them on ebay and get new orange ones in the same place. If you are in Europe it shouldn't be to expensive to ship from Germany, where they are really common.
Also, you would probably get a better price if you list them in pairs...

Alas...
That is probably...
Alas...
That is probably good advice. My fantasy was that someone out there had a bunch of them and would trade me for the red/orange units that I want for some, hopefully modest, consideration.
Still looking for that arrangement.
Who's got my miracle?!!!

While I wish you luck with...
While I wish you luck with your fantasy swap, I will say that there is something to be said for natural accumulation. Try living with them for a while. Then, if you still feel the same, go on looking. Many times I have been lucky with a find, but wished it were a different color or version etc. Sometimes you find that you're happy with the find later. Your predisposition might warrant your preference for elegance, but you might just find some pleasure in childlike whimsy.

Natural Accumulation
'Natural accumulation' (I like that phrase) well describes my lifelong style which has worked quite nicely, if I say so myself, in assembling an interesting assortment of furniture and oddments.
Not particularly monetarily valuable, perhaps, but that only makes the collection better (or sez me). I like the idea that us ordinary folks - the hoi polloi - can through diligence, time and a good eye; enjoy a stylish environment without excessively onerous expenditures.
You're right... I'm sure that I'll grow to like my circus-colored assemblage of Panton chairs. Color palette kinda reminds me of a Wonder Bread label, it does.
'Wonder Bread'. What a great name.
I'm still gonna look for my red/orange Panton miracle though. Also looking for some affordable KU / 'Zona basketball tix. An equal miracle that!

well
Good luck! If you really want it, I am sure it can be worked out if you look hard enough. If all else fails, sell them. Just make sure to sell them for what they are worth so you can replace them with the desired color.
