This question was asked by "bc" on a different forum:
"Some years ago I saw a "desk of the future" design that eliminated the traditional horizontal surface. Instead it was something of a metal hydra, with arms projecting to hold different things: computer monitor, keyboard, mouse, something to hold a book open for reading, a small writing surface, a clip board.
The notion was to allow the user to arrange their work without having flat surfaces that accumulate clutter. Or something like that.
Anyone seen or heard of this? I'm trying to find it now, and can't. Is there a name for this sort of design?"
Herman Miller
I think it was designed for HM in the 80s. It had different accessories: a screen and a file cabinet made of fabric. the user could modify it by adding or removing pieces. These pieces swiveled and adjusted allowing different configurations. I do not remember the designer but it is documented in the HM office furniture by Leslie Pina. Are we talking about the same piece ? I hope this helps.
