contributor at the time. I am sure you can find more information on Tony Paul if you put that signature in the search box.
Here is one to start with.

Hi

Hi
Our friend Lori started a site, but must have stalled out as the Tony Paul site is up, but blank. We exchanged some ideas, and its all on hold. http://www.tonypauldesigns.com/
Meanwhile I keep searching for info on all these obscure metal furniture craftsmen from the 50s. I search every magazine I can find. Many times a designer is not attributed to these pieces (probably they were modest people), and I am lucky if I can find the maker. Read some of the magazine pictures I have loaded to the picture album. Often the distributor doesn't talk about the maker, or the designer. I think this is why items get attributed to Paul, Mccobb, Loewy, etc.. without any evidence to the real original designer. That and every good design seems to have been ripped off and produced by a brand X company.
Good luck on that chair... it looks like Greta Grossman, more than TP to me.

Like you say donsof, a lot...
Like you say donsof, a lot of stuff gets atributed to Grossman, Tony Paul etc, since their production has not been documented that well yet.
Dealers charge ridiculous amounts of money for furniture that they claim is an original design by those designers, while they really have no idea and are just looking to make a quick buck...
The chair looks really nice, but I have never seen a similar chair attributed to Grossman, so I would be careful not to make any conclusions.
LRF, you mention 'California Studio' from Glenn of California. Do you have more info on this line? I haven't heard about it before.
yes
A fellow my the name of Maurice Powell who i would consider to be one of the foremost authorities on mid-century furniture and who has a store called mod-50's, told me a lot of the metal work came out of the California design studios of the 1950's they not only designed pottery, they designed lots of metal furniture,
I will see if i can sight references for you . I do know that Glenn of California hired lots of artist that did that kind of work.
I agree...
most of the great (american) mid century design work came out of California, in fact LAMA will be holding an upcoming auction featuring CA specific 20th century design.

Two questions
To anyone:
What is the date on the October auction in LA? The website for LAMA doesn't even list it, its only 1 month away!
If you had to pick one item Tony Paul designed, is famous for, or would be a signature piece, what would it be?
If he was listed in the Design Addict index of designers, you would say he was famous for something...
To me it would be minimalist cool on low brow metal stuff.
This drink cart was made...
This drink cart was made by Glenn of California. out of the California Studios . I was wondering if perhaps Greta Grossman Magnesson did
this cart ?
I know she did a lot of tea carts and worked for Glenn of California and she had a signature of putting ball feet on most everything she did, but i have read that a lot of her pieces from the late 40's to early 50's she did not. what do you think?
