thumbs up from me
I have had a lot of Goodform/General Fireproofing chairs (including a rare recliner). I believe they are essentially the same thing as the Emeco chairs. I really, really like them. They're comfortable, lightweight, and best of all--they do NOT come apart a the joints the way a conventional wood chair can.
The vintage Goodform chairs show up often at government surplus auctions, I've heard. I got mine at local estate sales but that can take forever if you want a set of six or eight. What I like about the Goodform chairs is that they have upholstered seats and backs. I removed the original perforated vinyl and put on Unika Vaev's "Look" fabric in the Steele colorway:
Emeco is great
I'm a huge fan of Emeco. I know there were a bunch of people doing aluminum/steel furniture but to my knowledge (and happily corrected if I'm wrong) Emeco is the only company that heat treats the aluminum - thus making it virtually indestructible. I've got one of the classic Navy chairs - found it for a steal on craigslist 😀
Also - I kind of like the way that Emeco is angling themselves into the design arena - altho some of the Starck designs are just blah. I love love love the Fosters + Partners chair they did in 2006. SO pretty and sleek!
The Institute of Contemporary Art has a bunch and they are so delicate and pretty.
Emeco are the best
Those chairs will last forever and they are beautiful.

Dan of Emeco was very helpful and responded immediately when I sent an inquiry email a month ago. He was attending the Milan fair and still sent me a quick note via email.
Definitely a testament to his line.
