Here's a project I'm working on for my home. I have an original ovalia egg chair in rough condition. I have stripped out all the old worn fabric down to the bare rough fiberglass interior. I am trying to adhere a plush fabric to the rough fiberglass (like the original upholstery) with little success so far. I've tried using 3m super 77 spray adhesive and misty foam and fabric spray adhesive. My test piece of fabric did not adhere very well with either one. I'm wondering if anyone has a lead on where I can find resources to figure out this problem. Any ideas will be welcome as info on restoring a piece like this has been hard to find.
Thanks!

Is the fiberglass clean of all residue?
Did you apply spray adhesive to both surfaces and let them dry adequately before sticking them together? The adhesive should be tacky, not gooey-wet. It loses its gloss as it becomes tacky.
If the answer is yes to the above and the spray adhesives still aren't sticking, try contact cement. IF it doesn't bleed through, that is.
If it does, I would suggest the following but ONLY if it isn't going to destroy the value of the chair. Use contact cement to adhere strips of canvas or other utility fabric to the fiberglass. This will be a very messy and noxious job! Wear old clothes and serious gloves, and do it outside on a breezy day. When the stuff is dry, use 3M or Misty on your plush fabric to stick it to the canvas.
I really have no idea what that will do to the value of the chair, though. It's not going to show and if done neatly will not be felt under the plush, but if the chair is ever redone it will be discovered, of course.
