Hello,
Need some quick advice on a furniture-set I am redoing.
The original suspension was made out of rubber straps, with metal hinges that locked in the wooden frame.
A woodworker who once had the same set told me it would be better to use singles made of fabric, and nail these to the inside of the chair (as rubber just stretches out again, eventually).
What do you think, and do you have technical advice on the matter of the fabric singles?
I am currently piecing the chairs back together and about to oil the wood.
Greetings.
singel
just google for "singel rubber" or for "meubelstoffeerderij benodigdheden"
I would check with Mobus first.

Thanks Erik!
This is the chair I'm currently working on.
There's also a sofa with low backrests.
It was sold at Gervan, a furniture-brand and showroom in Ingelmunster (W-Flanders, Belgium) and I heard this would have been at that time one of the few really modern pieces in their showroom.
The quality of the wood, the construction and the style seem very scandinavian. Has anybody seen this chair, being made by another brand? I saw this set in radar being tagged as a Hans Olsen design, made by CSMobler (see link), but can't find other scources confirming this.
I would like to trace the designer so I can look up his/her other designs.
Thanks!

andre verroken
André Verroken has once made a project for them.
This project was sponsored by (no longer existing) the Design Centre (Brussels)
Maybe you can contact him?

Nope 🙂 The firm closed...
Nope 🙂
The firm closed down 10 years or so ago.
We have our office here in the neighbourhood and I kind of stumbled upon it by accident.
There lives a sister in law next to the former showroom, she has no information at all (old catalogues, photos) and other relatives aren't anymore.
Maybe I can trace someone who worked there on the floor..
(edit)
I already emailed A.Verroken but got no answer. I suspect he participated in the late seventies or even eighties.
It's weird, as they otherwise seemed to produce more classically formed seating..
I edited my message to...
I edited my message to include the thing on Verroken.
No worries 🙂 !
I just passed by the building, a moment ago. It's for rent now. On the plot in front of the building still stands an abstract sculpture made out of wood-elements, a deteriorating monument from the sixties.
I guess you're right. Maybe they sold these to diversify their range.
.
I own a similar sofa, I believe it is Hans Olsen, see link below or google 'Hans Olsen sofa' (there are a 2 quite large images on the first page of results) or check the Danish Furniture Index.

thanks for the reply,
The construction of the H.Olsen sofa is covered in leather, only the legs are visible and made out of wood.
I'm thinking the dealer mentioned before wanted to tag it with a known designers name and it's now getting a new life as an olsen-set. Yet, the seating shows detailing I've never seen on pieces by Olsen: more geometric styling, different individual elements put together against the more bulky construction of Olsen and the use of nylon in the seatings back.
I'm obviously to involved 🙂
