Hi all, wondered if anyone had ever seen a stylish mid-century fire screen? Searching for something to cover our fireplace (just a hole at the moment), and all I can find are embroidered crinoline ladies! I'm guessing people weren't as bothered about hiding their fireplaces in the 60s....!

The Peter Maly fire screen for Conmoto is a good start for around $900.00. The George Nelson fire screen for Howard Miller is true mid-century modern for around $7000.00

Is this something you might be willing to make into a DIY project?
I recently started making custom fireplace screens out of woven wire mesh - something like what can be purchased and seen here: www.bwire.com -
They have really come out nicely, and the woven wire cloth is very easy to work with - any idea what dimensions you might be after? I wonder if something I have made previously would fit over your opening you are looking to cover.
Obviously, these are not genuine mid-century - but they do have that old crinoline ladies look to them - I will dig up some photos and message them your way - let me know if you are interested and I can either sell you one or give you the directions you need to possibly go about making your own.
