I don't think you'd pay...
I don't think you'd pay 8000.00 for an old one, Barry. Maybe six at the most for a mint one -- more likely four or five.
I've seen these Sonnemans. I had high hopes, too, but those proportions do look rather off. Kinda squat.
These are great lamps. I have an Italian made Trienalle form 68 or 69, but it isn't Arteluce. It's chrome with gray black and white shades and Wenge or Mahogany finials. It was maybe 900 USD. Very useful lamp.
I'd go for Daniel Donnelly's reproduction. Miles closer in spirit to the originals.

In the 1000 Lights book, they say the Triennale lamp is 152 cm high.
I think the pictures are difficult to compare if the arms are in different positions.
I like brass, but always felt...
I like brass, but always felt brass looked a little dated on this design. Bronze might have looked good -- little more understated.
Of course, they did in fact come in chrome. They just look more like a machine in chrome.
You can spot one in the opening scenes of Bullit.
Got it today!
It's quite large of a lamp (once I got it together), quite close to the Treinnale, and very well made. It WAS beastly to assemble and being a Chinese product, it had little instructions.
I would've preferred brass or at least satin finished chrome. This one's a bit shiny.
You can only use a 60 in each shade, but it does a great job of illuminating the ceiling, providing general lighting and providing bright specific light to my lounge chair and table.
For the price I paid ($1400...it went up) I'm very happy with it. I strongly suggest it to anyone who wants to really make a statement, as well as providing good lighting.
By the way, I got it from Lamps Plus. No tax and free shipping.
OK, Lloyd
Here's a snap of it in my living room....the red shade of up out of camera range. But you can see the size of the lamp with the LaFonda chair on the right and the Aalto on the left with the little Schultz Petal table in the center.
Also, while I had the camera out, I thought I'd take a snap of my desk with my new Richard Schultz 1966/Leisure furniture.
I got the dining room table (on the left) for only $350.00 because it has a bit of paint chipping around the legs (big deal) and the pair of black dining armchairs for only $250.00 each because they too were returned for some reason. They look new to me!
This is an example of my buying the very best luxury pieces next to new for prices that are quite reasonable. With shipping, I paid less than $1200 for two Schultz chairs and a Schultz dining table....jeez, less than one chair new!
