Havent got anything...
Havent got anything imaginative myself just seperates on top of a sideboard,
this is what I'd like eventually, only really listen to LP's so I can live without a CD player, started looking for the components a few weeks ago no luck so far, the shelving shouldn't be a problem as you can still buy it new i think it might take a while to find everything 🙂

What you desire is truly a dilema in the design world. I am using the Fiam Radio system by Ron Arad, but remain disappointed. The reason is this unit and all the others I have researched are not deep enough to handle most of todays audiophile equipment. I am using Krell (preamp, power amps, SACD, and DVD) with a JA Michell tuntable, Vienna Acoustic Beethoven speakers (front and rear in piano black) and two REL Strata III subwoofers. I believe that I am either going to have my local cabinet maker build the specific unit or continue to search for a better looking racking system through "high end" audio suppliers. All in all I believe the easiest solution is a racking system. Most that are available through outlets like HiFi Buys are just hideous. I will continue to hunt and wish you the best of luck in your quest.

If you're a real audiophile, then design has little to do with it.
Quality is paramount.

Speakers: KEF Reference bookshelf on black bose speaker stands (very Saarinen-like).
Nice looking bunch of pieces, but sound and usability is much more important than looks.

...I have bose speakers and nad amp etc...so although it sounds good I wouldnt say it looks great. I put the whole system and my cds in my walk in pantry (a fairly substantial room)and had speaker wiring put in the walls and have the speakers in the living areas of the house. This came about because I couldnt think of what else to do with it!

O and I've got my system on

Modular wall-mounted shelving
Available space for my TV & audio stuff was about 6' wide by only 14" deep (passageway from living room to bedroom).
My solution was a custom shelving system-- I found brass standards & various sized arms at my local hardware store (old stock-- must have been sitting there since 1965!). I then planned the exact system I needed to accommodate my television, cable box, DVD player, turntable, receiver, CD player, speakers. Had shelves cut at my local lumber yard, then finished them myself.
The whole thing ended up costing me around $200, I'm guessing.

While my system could be considered impressive I am not sure if I am a "true audiophile" and I also agree that the unit to hold the equipment (not the room dynamics) does not matter to performance, but I would add that a Rembrandt in a garage looks good but in a museum setting it looks even better. I am sure that Krell, JA Michell, REL, and Vienna Acoustics all have designers as well as engineers working side by side to make an effort regarding "form equals function". In this case I was attempting to offer a solution to the question as opposed to dismissing the idea.

Barry, true audiophiles, in my experience, could and do worry even the unit that houses their systems to a slow, painful, and excruciatingly expensive death.

I am nowhere near an audiophile. I actually can hardly ever hear a difference in comparisons. I just love music and would isten to it out of a coffee can if I loved the song enough.
I think I am going to go with a wall mounted shelf system above my credenza that holds my LCD TV. I'll put the Rega P1 on the credenza for accessibility. I'll sink a chase into the wal to conceal all the wires. I've picked most components, just not speakers. With the retangular shape and way we sit when we view the TV I was thinking I am going with the three speaker system. I am more concerned with music and don't need surround sound. I'm thinking a center piece with two towers.
There has been some great suggestions here, thank you. I also love the Nelson CSS, it's another reason why I tell people he is my favorite.

For what purpose was this Game Shelf by Ilkka Suppanen designed? For video games systems or...
...is it also good for living room PCs and snacks?
