The hubs and I seem to have found our new house out here in NM. Sorry no pictures yet, but one thing we can see from the layout is that it would be nice for him to have a chair that is a comfortable lounger. It'll be for TV watching, staring at the fireplace and meditating on the lovely view. So a swivel chair seems to be in order.
Jakobsen's Egg and Swan chairs seem likely candidates, but I'd love some other ideas...I don't need to have a mid-cent piece, but definitely want something minimal. The hubs is about 6ft tall, average build and weight. He needs lower back support (using a pillow is OK) and he'll want to be able to put his feet up...ottoman need not match, but chair angle should accommodate the use of one.
Anyone?
But it must be tested
Olive, I agree that the Aluminum group look has been co-opted by boardrooms - but this is one of those instances where trying the chair out might make a huge difference. Everyone who sees mine for the first time says "why do you have an office chair in your living room" and then tries it and falls in love. Even my own 'hubs, who basically despises all of my furniture and dreams of living in a Federalist townhouse likes it.
But other than that there are very few decent classic swivel chairs. Eames 670, Jacobsen's Egg, Mulhauser's Mr. Chair...
Thanks Lucifersum... I value your input
I just don't think I could look at it for long...it's all angular and militant in my eyes. I personally think a sexy egg chair in orange would be just the ticket...now to convince 'the hubs'. He makes decisions at he speed of continental drift...
Hubs
Hubs sounds like a plural form! How many do you have Olive?
Now back to the topic:
I don't know if the hubs has tried any of the candidates, but here is my take:
The Eames lounger is a great chair in many respects, but for someone who is 6' tall its headrest is too low to rest the back of your head on without slouching awkwardly. I am 5'8" and would not consider it for a primary/only lounger.
The Egg chair offers a very upright seating position. The tilt function helps, but as with the Eames, I would not consider it for the purposes you mention. I view it as more of a lounge area chair, than a lounge chair, if that makes any sense.
The Swan is even worse in this respect. It is really more of a side or dining chair IMO.
As Lucifer notes, there are few well designed, comfortable loungers that swivel.
I like fastfwd's suggestion the best. It might look less office in a nice fabric.
I also like the Jetson from 1966. It is extremely comfortable, but doesn't come with an ottoman.
Edit: Fixed large image.
something modern
What about the 'take a line for a walk' by Alfredo Häberli for Moroso?
