I've always been fond of the Finnish designer
Saara Hopea-Untracht, but my fondness may have come about through osmosis as my best friend's wife was her niece and there house is a veritable museum of Scandinavian glass in general, and Saara's work in particular.
Those long cold nights might have encouraged lingering by a glass furnace, or is it kiln? and caused that part of the planet to excel at it. Saara's work has a real elemental quality to it, which I love.
Petite Collection
My collection is quite small, consiting of only 5 pieces. Pieces by Vicke Lindstand, Gunnar Nylund, Per Lutkin, Sven Palmqvist, and Tamara Aladin, for Kosta, Strombergshyttan, Holmegaard, Orrefors and Riihimaen. Basic in style and form typical of Scaninavian glass...very sensual, graceful and elegant.
Will post a picture next chance I get.
My next addition will likely be another Strombergshyttan or Timo Sarpaneva for Iitala.
Oh, me, me!
I love Scandinavian glass! These two vases are by Bengt Orup for Johansfors (Sweden). The round one is about 6" high and the long one is 15", I think.
The Atoll bowl by Anna Ehrner for Kosta Boda is the medium size. I know they're a big production piece but I still love this one---the color, the thickness, the swirls.
I also have a bunch of serving dishes and a pitcher in the Flora design by Oiva Toikka for Iittala or Nuutajärvi. I use them a lot and love them, though the bowls tend to chip very easily.
I've got stemware by Per Lutken which I rarely use, partly because I don't want to break any of them! And a "Party" platter by Goran Waarf for Kosta Boda. And a bunch of the snowball votives from Kosta Boda. And more...almost all of it from auctions. I see it, I buy it. I can't resist.
Ah Robert...quite...
Ah Robert...quite impressive. The like the sequential arrangement, gives it movement. Below is my humble collection. It will surely grow with time.
Are most of those you pictured by Tamara Aladin?
What I like most about my collection as it stands...is the simplicity of the forms and colors. Allows me to place them anywhere in the home. Occasionally I use these for arrangements, but that a rarity.
stunning collection.
Odd that we don't see more pictures of ones homes and collections.
and what you shared... beautiful.
Stagnant objects are considered unnecessary by some.
I've recently considered a post of 12 objects that define your personal world.
Define your life and personality.
I'm on the road again tomorrow. Maybe next month.
