I am interested in getting a Saarinen Womb chair and ottoman. I would appreciate some help with the following question.
The Eames lounge and ottoman had rosewood and duck feather cushion fillings in the earlier versions which was later changed to other veneers and cushion fillings.
Assuming that the Saarinen chair are both made by Knoll, is there any difference between a vintage one and a new one that might affect collectibility?
Many thanks.
I believe that
the fiberglass inner frame was changed to environmentally safe plastic without the glass....like the Eames shell chairs.
Once upon a time, I called Knoll and asked them why not reissue the Womb Settee and they said because of the change to the fiberglass inner frame, they have not been able to find an affordable way to have the strength of the discontinued settee.
