Robin Day Q Stak chairs

We are just about to purchase this beautiful set of Q stak chairs attributed to Robin Day. We noticed that these chairs have four bolts unlike a lot of the others we have seen online that have 2 in the middle. Interested to know if any one has any information...

these high, exposed bolts...
these high, exposed bolts seem very uncomfortable, no?

They're not bolts.
They're round head slotted machine screws and, if the chairs were mine, I'd look to replace them with good-quality stainless steel carriage bolts of the proper length and matching self-locking nuts.
