Where in Seattle do I get a womb chair re-foamed and reupholstered?
Hi,
Re: Where in Seattle do I get a womb chair re-foamed and reupholstered?
I have an original Knoll Womb chair my dad purchasec in the mid 60's.
Where do I take it in Seattle to have it re-foamed and reupholstered?
What should I expect to pay? There is no damage to the frame or the fiberglass it is just old and tired

HELP Any recommendations for upholsterers in San Francisco or the Bay Area
I have been looking to find someone in the Bay Area to reupholster a Saarinen womb chair and ottoman.
So far the cheapest I found was to ship it for $80 dollars each way on greyhound and then another $750 for labor and $150 for foam by retroredo.com. However Lloyd, the owner?, said he had recently shipped the same chair finished and completed to San Francisco and I asked to get the information to stop by and see his work seeing as this upholstery job is a considerable amount of money. He told me he couldn't find the information anywhere and that I should consider someone local. My trust in him immediately fell by the wayside! And I had been ready to use him.
So now, I am back at square one, feeling stuck. I had a quote from another reputable upholsterer but it seems high. Hand stiched and finished completely would cost 1850 for labor and foam.
Help!!!
I just discovered this site and glad to join this conversation because I have a womb chair from 1972 with the original Knoll wool upholstery still in pretty good condition. But I am ready to give my living room a face lift (skipping one for myself) and wondered where to get the work done. My sister sent her chair from Houston to somebody in PA who did a great job but she can't remember the name of the company (or person) who did the reupholstering. Would love a recommendation and estimate of price for both the chair and ottoman. Also, what type of fabric works best. Is it worth the price of Knoll fabrics? I am a registered architect and wonder if that enables me to get a discount anywhere. BTW, I live in Washington, DC. Thanks!
Thanks!
