I've just purchased an amazing George Nelson Bubble Lamp -- wall sconce/hanging lamp. It's in really good shape except for cord cleaning. The original pull cord looks to have been replaced with a standard very short pull chain so I have to reach into the lamp to turn it on. I'd love to find a replacement pull cord with the wood bead on the end. Any ideas on where to locate one? Ebay, Etsy and Craigslist turned out nada. Also, how to dust it? Microfiber cloth? It's got a great gold patina but the top looks like it hasn't been dusted in years -- any clue how to mitigate that without ruining it? Thanks!

I have a 'cigar' floor lamp, and its original chain is just a simple standard pull ball-chain with a little flanged steel thing on the end. I suppose the end/bead of yours just broke off some years back.   If you want a wooden bead back on the end that can't be too hard to fashion after a trip to the hardware store, eh?  Ball-chain is pretty cheap by the foot, I think.
For dusting, I gently use a soft paint brush, it does the trick.
To save wear and tear on the thing I just keep it on all the time with a 7w compact florescent in there, it's now been providing swell ambience for a few years on the same bulb.  A simple daily on/off is many hundreds of clicks a year that I don't feel like the poor old parts of a 60 year old lamp really benefit from.  Or maybe it's more that I don't like bending down to the floor all the time for that particular purpose?
