I purchased a McCobb Planner Group captain's chair, in the dark stained maple, and there's some clear gunk, an adhesive perhaps, on the seat. Not a very large area, but it's got to go. I've done my best with the Goo Gone, and my trusty thumbnail, but there's still a trace of it. What I'm seeing in the filings does not include anything from the finish, so far so good. But what next? I am heading to the hardware store to pick up some 0000 steel wool, and will try it on the underside.
But I'm hoping one of you can recommend something.
Thanks!

Oops
Upon closer inspection, the areas where the gunk was removed have taken away the finish, or the sealant layer on the top. The stain is still good.
I guess I have to live with it, or refinish.

Beware GooGone!
It contains the same citrus-based solvent as some "environmentally-sensitive" paint strippers!
