Hey, I had the bad luck to buy fiberglass chairs from Metro Retro Furniture which are all treated with Penetrol. The result are very glossy shells and I realy hate that (sorry). Therefore I am now looking for 'THE' solution to remove this stuff. Is there a product out there which will do this trick?
Thanks!

Penetrol
Have you tried contacting the manufacturer of Penetrol in Australia? Their website is quite thorough in describing their products, and they may be able to help you. They also have a few different products for different applications which may change in the way the product can be removed short of sanding. Was the Penetrol applied directly or mixed with paint to extend the drying time so that the paint could flow more evenly? XIM-extender, from what I have heard, does the same thing without yellowing and with less sheen. I am currently using Penetrol on a project but am thinking about switching to XIM for the non-yellowing aspects.

Penetrol
I also forgot to mention that Penetrol touts that Penetrol (mostly for wood-not sure about fiberglass) can be used as a primer. Any thoughts on dulling it and repainting over it? I guess I need to know more about what you ultimately want done with these chairs.

Penetrol
I just went online to a couple of boating sites and two products are recommended:
Poliglow and Interlux Fiberglass Prep Wash 202
I hope that these products help.

I had a shel chair that I refinished with penetrol and was unhappy with the glossiness as well.
I took some 0000 super fine steel wool dipped it in some furniture oil and rubbed the chair down a couple of times.
It took the glossy look away and was happy with the results.

Thanks for your suggestions....
Thanks for your suggestions. Unfortunately, these products are not on the European market. So I bought regular paint stripper and that worked (smells awful). Of course this product and the sanding that was done by Metro Retro Furniture made the shells dull and matte. I will restore the finish with epoxy so the shells will have there natural (satin) finish.
I really do not understand why people use Penetrol to restore shells. The first armshells where sanded by Zenith because Eames didn't like the glossy finish. Of course they stopped doing that, because it was too much work.
