Just picked this up from an estate and I have a couple questions.1. How would you recommend repairing the ply? It has some scuffs and scratches (all minor cosmetic wear). Should I leave as is, or is there an easy, non-invasive way to clean these up?2. It is missing its gliders. Based on the photos, can anyone assist as to what gilders I need?3. Material: My gut says this is oak vineer, which puts production date at 1953 if I am not mistaken. Can anyone confirm or deny?4. I'm having trouble finding info about the etched LCM under the bottom bar (as pictured sneaking under the bar in photo 3). I expect that this was common? Does it yield any info on date of production? Unfortunately there are no stickers left. Thanks from a proud new owner.
My understanding is dimpled shock mounts like yours are generally dated to 53-54. You probably need the dome of silence screw in glides. Check with Graham Mancha. He has original parts. My untrained eyes believe it's walnut. As far as the scratches, it's probably best you leave them as is. It adds character like a badge of honor.
I agree with kin, it looks like walnut, though faded. If the chair dates from 53 or 54, it would most likely have the slip on boot glides. There was a transitional period where you would see either glide on the chairs. I think they were phasing out one and replacing it with the new, so it was not a clean break or sudden change. Your chair has holes which would accomodate the domes of silence, so really you could put either on and while either could technically be acceptable, I think it probably originally had slip on boot glides.
