Don't know if this is American Folk Art or even Asian...maybe even Peruvian. Feels and looks very old. A cat, dog or lama? Why the exaggerated neck and face? Why looking behind? Makes one think...and that to me is art.
That is most odd --
and therefore wondrous. A bookend ? Why else the back-turned head (as you say) ?
Man the creator is apparently permitted full license to create his own alternate species . . . !

Thank you SDR and sorry for my delayed response. Can't be a bookend. The feet protrude, which would cause the books to be slanted.
