Hello everyone,
is it hard to restore the metal wire on a platner chair if it is rusty?
Anyone in Florida that you could reccomend for pricing that is experienced in this task?
I found this platner easy chair (just the frame)but it is rather rusted and I wanted to see if it was worth the time and money to fix it prior to purchasing the chair.
thank you
Chrome
If the chair is chromed there are two possibilities. The first is that the oxidation is light, and sitting on top of the chrome, in which case a little 0000 steel wool and a whole lot of elbow grease will clean it up.
More seriously is if the oxidation has caused the chrome to flake off. To my knowledge the only way to repair that is to have the entire chair rechromed (happy to be corrected if there is another way, of course)which is an expensive endeavor.
CLose-up shots should show if the chair is rusting through the chrome. Good luck!

As LuciferSum says, you almost need to know your rust better. Some rust is really rusty, beyond repair, and some is just slight to moderate oxidation, and can be easily remedied. There are at least a couple different kinds of specialty products out there. And there's the old aluminum foil/Coca Cola home remedy.

Be careful what you wish for !!!
The chair will cost 150.00 to powder coat $350 to re chrome.
0ver $ 1000.00 to recover , plus 4 yards of Hallendale at 55.00 a yard.
Biggest problem .......
no original pins. hooks holders, to hold all the fabric in place. seat needs to be reconstructed.
So add it up around $1500.00 plus the buy it now price of $475. plus shipping.of$ 80.00 My professional opinion
not worth it. others may disagree.
If the rust is really that bad...
just go to Home Depot, buy a can of black spray paint, paint the frame and everyone will think it's the more expensive bronze finish. OR, buy it as it, put it outside and call it landscape art. I would use it as a topiary frame myself... or just let a vine go crazy on it, lol.
But seriously, to have the fiberglass shell reconstructed, the latex foam molded, and upholstery patterned, it would be very complicated and expensive, and who knows what it would look like in the end. I doubt it would be worth the money and effort. Just keep watching eBay and Wright21, you never know when you will see one pop up at a great price.
