Sliced not peeled Sir, I do think the top is worth protecting though, 1/4 inch thick low iron glass on little rubber pads or strip ? Again I'm not keen on the look of that but, well its up to you.

Do your guests throw things,
Heath ? The only thing wrong with a vivid grain pattern like that is that you don't
want to put ANYthing on top of it, even one nice piece of ceramic ware: it's just too complete all by itself.
Just keep it dusted, and wipe up any spills promptly. It could start to get color changes if partially covered ?
The perfect repeat across four leaves of pattern reveals immediately that it's veneer. That is one stunning piece of furniture. Congratulations !

No, but accidents happen. Nail polish remover, dropped bowls etc, that edge might be a thin strip of veneer and I'd try and protect it.
I think Le Corb built a house along Alexanders ideas, the only view was from a small room at the top of a flight of stairs, when you take things for granted you get careless with them.

I generally find the terms "sideboard"/"buffet"/ "credenza" interchangable;
but in this case I think only "credenza" is appropriate. The other terms are way too pedestrian-sounding, this bad-boy is a definitely a credenza, don't you think?

Indeed.
Incredenza might be even better !
Are there just two wide sliding doors ? And the drawer band -- solid fronts, four drawers ? Beautifully matched boards. I wonder if this was a production piece.
I'd love to see a photo of an end panel. Do they continue the appearance of the top veneer ?

I found almost the same...
I found almost the same piece on a eBay listing. Looks like part of set. There are a few differences though. The front legs are not sculpted at the meeting point. The inside is a little different as well. And I just have to say the grain on mine is better looking. Maybe this being a set can help Identify the designer.
Here is the eBay listing. Item number 150580081079

SDR, yes just two large...
SDR, yes just two large sliding doors and the band of drawers along the top, 4 total. The drawers fronts are solid. The side panel resembles the grain of the front sliding doors.
