Love it - thanks for the information!
Perhaps I was just (incorrectly) inferring things from the current market. Seems like McCobb's pieces (all around from the maple/birch Planner pieces to the Directional) are rising in value and demand - to where Nelson pieces have been for a while. I'm sure this is a reason why:

I, for one, have been able to find some relatively inexpensive pieces that are working great in our house: http://www.flickr.com/photos/29624070@N07/5759242611/in/faves-25671211@N02/

Horses for courses
Collectors are growing. And there will be fans of any designer so we will see demand defeat the availability of the pieces out there.
Paul McCobb is on the rise and so are many others.
Ever seen what Paul Evans used to sell for? Now it is ridiculous. Not that I would want Paul Evans - just not for me, but I have seen some of the pieces treble in prices.
I'm not into Paul McCobb and never will, but whether or not it ever sold in a general store would never be a credential I would use to buy something I want to admire. I don't enjoy Paul McCobb but I have never seen him do anything distasteful and some of his pieces I still think are pretty darn nice - just not for me.
If you like it - then you like it. Money doesn't buy good taste, but taste certainly - eventually - takes money to feed once demand is there. Unless your lucky and your taste sucks.
There will only be less of the stuff - and according to population graphs more of us.
So get it while you can!
- A.S.
