Some time ago my wife inherited a Papa bear chair from a great aunt. apparently it was purchased in the 50's or early 60's. I have absolutely no doubt that it is an Original. It was reupholstered some time ago though (would that hurt its value?). I just do not know how to prove if its an original? would there have to be some kind marking or stamp somewhere on it? Any help would be great! Ill put the web links to a few pictures i took. Please check them out.
armrests
Also, check the armrests. The top piece of wood should be nestled into another piece of wood. You should be able to see a slight seam between the pieces of wood on the piece of the arm where the fabric dips down.
There should be a hans wegner stamp, a danish furniture control label, or a number, stamped on the bottom of the chair.
Measure the chair and make sure the dimensions are correct.
Check the webbing under the seat cushion and make sure that the number of straps matches the original (unless these were replaced during reupholstery).
how tall are papa bear...
how tall are papa bear chairs supposed to be? The bottom of the chair is also covered in a thin layer of fabric from when it was reapoulstered (I believe). So i have not been able to look at the stamps or little markings to make sure they are even there. does the chair supposed to have an open bottom or does it supposed to be closed off like mine?? I would open it but i am scared that it will lower the value. any suggestions!!?
