How do you tell the difference between the fakes and the original? Why do some HM Eames chairs have 4 legs, while others have 5? How many legs did the original chair have?

Your 4 or 5 leg debate leads me to believe you are talking about the aluminum group series. The chair originally had 4 legs but the newly manufactured versions have 5. From what I understand they did this due to safety regulations.
