...asked "What did you dream about when you was kid?". This is my answer:
(Did Ford Motor company obtain Wankel engine license?)
It is ironic, is it not...
that when the epitaph of the American car companies is written (and likely companies from all continents, as well), that the concept cars, the cars that were never built, are going to be the only ones that will be considered truly memorable and desirable.
One has to wonder why the car company leaderships have never grasped that people want the best they are capable, and not the most tepid, or most compromised.
I would be happy to own and drive any of these cars, provided it were safe and reliable, even today. And everyone of these concept cars, unorthodox and idiosyncratic as accountants and in-house counsel and CFOs and golden parachuted CEOs might have found them, would have been preferrable to even the best cars that they in fact built over the years. There is no substitute for something that is wonderous and fun to look at, if that thing can fulfill its function. Almost any of these cars could have been engineered to fulfill their functions and permit these remarkable exercises by car stylists/designers. And the world would have been much the better for it.
Crap is demoralizing.
Crap eats away at the character of the people that design it, engineer it, build it, and consume it.
Crap is a road to the decline and fall of companies and societies.
Crap kills.
"Flying Car Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" is...
...life prisoner in world of laws of aerodynamics.
But in real world, automobile industry only accepts those innovations to mass-production which have only advantages.
If it has just one disadvantage it probably never progresses beyond prototype stage, no matter how many advantages it has.

Very exciting new engine concepts,
which one would You choose for your car?:

The only way though
to actually enjoy one of these cars is to be extremely overweight, and have the catalytic converters, and mufflers removed. The car has to have a start speed from park at no less than 35, and cap at around 240.
Wipers, and good tires will have to be a must for the safe non-american car drivers, because trails of blackened chili will be all over the roads, and everyone's windshields. If they're not dead from the smog emissions, or sudden cliff they had to take after we try to run them over.
All I know is I feel like driving very dangerous today. Like on the autobahn. And I'm hungry. Just gotta find the buns. Oh here they are. These'll go nice with my lard shake. I don't know how I fit into my truck. Oh yeah, the forklift...
