I finally get to see a photo of the bathroom. Or maybe I'm a little too buzzed, and think it's the bathroom.

The bedroom
of the Glass House is simply the 20% or so of the main space that is hidden by the bath/fireplace cylinder and a wood partition/cabinet. The same windows, of course. . .
I'd bet Johnson would have provided a partition for the toilet, if he had done the house more recently !

no doubt about the house is cool as could be, and to think the old boy designed it in 1949, but come on could he have designed or built anything so impracticable you know no one could live in that I read just yesterday that Dr Farnsworth a female doctor in Chicago sued, screamed, at Mies for designing that glass house he designed , she hated it thought it was a waste of money and time and totally impracticable , The world was calling it masterpiece she could not stand it.

she viewed the models before it was built and signed off from what I know.
Perhaps impractical then but with laminated glass, insulated sandwiches and photo-voltaic panels we should be able to get warm/cool and opaque at will glass box houses.
I think the Finish Embassy in Canberra is rather good with this.
The Farnsworth house is only ...
The Farnsworth house is only an hour from my Chicago home. I recall driving there around 10 years ago to try and see damage from a then recent River basin flood. Great home. Dr. Farnsworth should have been put to sleep. Didn't Meis respond by saying "You can take a whore-to-culture, but you can't make her drink"?
he might have said that ...
he might have said that in the documentary's of Louis I Kahn Phillip Johnson said Mies was one mean guy who you could not hardly talk to..... he should know, he worked on the Segrams building and knew Mies very well from his days as head of architectures at the MOMA and was responsible for Mies getting the commission from the Bronfman family.
