I need an Eames contract base dining table and I have a choice of either a 1950s vintage or a brand new one.

If price was not an issue, which would you suggest? Some say that the vintage ones are better made. Is there any truth to that?

Vintage for me, Thanks
Then again, I am of the "Vintage over New" philosophy in the never ending debate. As always, I guess it boils down to what do you prefer?
I personally enjoy the aged look of the aluminum and the subtle patina my walnut table top has. Yes, it has a few dings and scratches but I see them more as adding to the character and a connection to the history of the piece.
As far as quality, I think Herman Miller always produces a high quality product (and will make you pay for it). Another reason to buy vintage is in most cases the cost is significantly less.

Vintage
You can find a vintage table for much cheaper than a new one.

shiny or not
thats the issue. The brand new ones are high polished aluminum. that will fade and tarnish over time to a soft lead grey (which i like)
the vintage ones are already tarnished and very difficult to repolish.
