Just picked up a George Nelson gateleg table and six chairs. They came from the daughter of a local architect who bought them new in the early 50s. I'm trying to figure out whether the wood on the table is teak or walnut. Also, any other information on the chairs would be welcome as I've not found many examples online. Everything is all original, and very, very nice condition.

Walnut too.  And I rather fancy hinges executed in wood at that scale. Very rare thing to see.

Right.  I can think of only one table, Danish perhaps and a gate-leg design . . . ?
I made a cabinet with doors that hinge that way -- have I shown it before ?

And yes, you are thinking of the Niels Koefoeds Gateleg table (people also incorrectly describe it as Kurt Østervig).

Can the chairs be dated by the tag? Also, assuming the table is walnut, what is recommended for treating the finish? It's my understanding that there was an oiled walnut finish and a regulkar finish. Any way to easily tell. Please pardon my naivete, and thanks!
