Trying to work out if I've had a good find or not. Picked up a smart dining set. Stamped on the underside of the eight chairs is Toby Chair Morris Glasgow and on the table Cumbrae Morris of Glasgow.I've established that the table was designed by Neil Morris and that our chairs are the stacking chair version, but my questions are: Who designed the chairs ? were they made in large quantities ( how rare ) ? and is there any reference, particularly to price out there on the Internet ?

Yes the Toby chair is Neil...
Yes the Toby chair is Neil Morris too - about £50 a chair I'd say. I have one of his 'cloud' coffee tables (also from the Cumbrae range) which I would never part with.

Here's a couple of links which might help, one's mentions the V&A and ones a dealer, might be the same table if not the chairs. No price, but if you don't ask you don't get.

Morris Glasgow, Toby Chair
JP without wanting to step on Paulanna's toes ( no offense ) I think you might find the Toby chairs even individually are worth much more and well, well in excess of £100 individually,( though god forbid you sell them that way ).. You are aiming at a somewhat niche market, however this brings its benefits. The set has a good British heritage and noted designer behind them. Add to this, a set of eight, which should bring its own premium, so keep calculating. Interestingly you appear to also have an original Morris Table. Again adds to the desirability.
Just for reference, a single chair gets in excess of £100 even on ebay. The link below will illustrate this, it sold some time ago so no picture, 14th from the top. A good find, don't give it away. Any chance of posting an image ? and are you looking to sell or keep it ?

The one on ebay had the cradle type base which is a little more desirable than the stacking base

I think I stand by what I said. Having handled a variety of Morris I've found it all comes downs to personal taste.

Quite a lot of information to...
Quite a lot of information to digest after a couple of days away from the computer.
The links are interesting, especially the one leading to the V&A via the scran website. Not sure I want to put my hand in my pocket though to source the info, or if I need to ! ?
It appears the suite is an interesting find. I just liked what I saw and took a chance.
Paulanna, what's the cradle base and was that your chair on ebay ?
In response to your question of what I plan to do with it. I had bought it for myself, beats eating off the floor, but having said that, I could have my arm twisted...... how do we make contact ?
With regards to a value. No matter how it looks, I did pay a few quid and in honesty would have paid double the asking price. I think from the comments above I've established there is an obvious value which differs depending on whether your a dealer and at what level, and whether your a tinkerish type collector or an avid one. I think I'll have to work that one out for myself....
