I just acquired a set of 6 of these killer chairs, and I can't for the life of me figure out what they are. At first blush they reminded me of Finn Juhl for Bovirke, but when I saw them in person they're obviously not Danish. The backs are walnut and I'm pretty sure the frames are oak. They are very low to the ground, seat height is only 14". The chairs are rife with interesting details - the front legs are octagonal, and the back legs, while 8 sided, are more like a square with cut corners. The "X" stretchers are asymmetrical - the piece that goes from the front leg to the middle is 12", while the piece that goes from the back leg to the middle is only 8".
The chairs came out of an estate that was chock full of high quality designer furniture, mostly 50s-70s, mostly American. These strike me as late '40s-early '50s. Any ideas would be much appreciated!
