I think they're the kind of cups
from which you drink with a straw.
Maniqz, I'd like to see someone try to confidently lift that cup from a table as you describe ("cup your hand around them while the handle is pointed away from you"), sip from it, then set it back down.
One hand, no grip change allowed. Points deducted for tea on the table, in your lap, or on your chin or nose.
Student exercise.
It's a student exercise for study, not the final product to sell millions to the market.
In an exercise you learn shapes/form/materials/uses/production/manufacturation/etc/etc/etc
After all, I don't think that as it's made in china is obligated to sell millions to the whole world. Or I'm wrong?
As an exercise I think it goes well.
If it's not an A (or a 10 or how do you put the calcification there?)
would be a B. But doesn't go wrong to me.
I like the fist one, the inspiration from the flower is nice. But require more time and work to develop. If it's abandoned could be an open exercise for the future. Agree with SDR and
"that the handle -and all above part- of the teapot seems at odds with the forms of the rest of that set". And I found it too symmetric.
On the second one, On the cups issue:
To solve the problem, nice shape-uncomfortable to use, I'd use that shape as sugar and cream bowls, in order not to abandon the shape so familiar with the teapot. And design a new one for the cups, more open, more simple and classic, not necessary so the same shape that need to follow exactly the tea pot.
Yerba mate: 伴侣
Hey Heath! I've never thought somebody would put a picture of a mate here! Nice to see it. Could be interesting to complement the different uses and variations of ways to drink infusions. The one you put is the classical. Now there are plenty Contemporary Design mates. There must be more than one collecting them. All shapes and materials we can imagine. By the way it's also a regular exercise for design students in the university too. Here is the last one that's a success in design/awards/ and sales. -not so common combination-.
