Just got this from evilbay. Really like it. First time I see one like this...

I was bidding on the wood clock too
but let it go.
Does it have a label or number on the back? It's probably a Meridian clock, if it was indeed made by Howard Miller; the hands are HM/Irving Harper, for sure. It probably hails from the same time period as the Ceramic pottery Meridian clocks imported from Italy.
As far as the orange clock, I love the design (2271), but I wouldn't have any idea how to fix the orange color, and I wouldn't want to try.
By the way, I got a really nice Ball clock on eBay delivered yesterday (I won it for only $265.00)! It's the all brass model, electric with the natural wooden balls. The back is a thin masonite material with the gold Howard Miller label, so I'm guessing it's earlier than those with the number stamped zinc backing.
The only issue was it had a short chord (with the proper hole in the bottom of the brass motor box), so I simply put on a new chord (golly, it's difficult to line up those screws) and it looks and works like new. (I never had a real vintage Ball Clock...only a multi-colored clone i gave to my sister....)
Thanks for the comments.......
Thanks for the comments.... The clock collection is an addiction at this point. Still waiting for the steering wheel clock!
The panels was an idea to disguise the heavy textured drywall underneath.
They are 3/8" thick and 4 feet x 8 feet, interior grade birch veneer plywood.
They are attached to the wall using 6 fasteners per panel. I still have to do the aluminum trim between them...
