I'm thinking of getting a sofa for me new apt and considering either Modernica's Case Study sofa or Herman Miller's Goetz sofa. Just wondering if anyone has one of these or sat in it. I would like to know which one you think is classier looking and more comfortable. Would the Goetz sofa have better quality being a Herman Miller original? Thanks.
I would say the quality is...
I would say the quality is good on either. Modernica did make some Herman Miller products for a while and are a reputable company. Both are comfortable to me, but comfotable for what they are. The Goetz is more of a substantial sofa being that it has a bigger scale and arms and higher back. The daybed is comfy but don't expect it to be something it isn't. It has a low back and no arms. Buy what fits your purpose.
Another nice choice is Modernica's Case Study sofa.
The only thing I don't like about the goetz is the flared arms. That is just personal taste. I prefer boxier more midcentury pieces.
Check DWR - they have several sofas (including the daybed) on sale right now, and a few others I like near the same price range.
Good luck!

Room and Board has a lot of nice sofas. Are you in San Francisco, if yes, Inside(149 Gough St) has the Case Study on display. Good luck!
Everything
Inside has almost every piece from Modernica on display, plus they are great to work with. Call them to see if they have what you want. We just picked up a Bubble lamp from them and chatted for a while.

oops
Between the two I like Modernica's Case Study sofa. I know a few people who own these. They are well made, comfortable, and above all, classic. They will go with most anything. If you play it smart with getting the right color, I have a hard time believing that you'll ever tire of it.
Case study
Yeah, my vote's with Whitespike. The case study is just such a great form and it is comfortable. I was surprised how much so as I definitely have a prejudice that mid-cent peices tend to be too small for my large self. But it's well proportioned and big enough for even the giants in my family.
Thank to all for your input, ...
Thank to all for your input, I guess after hearing all your testimonies, it seems that the Case Study sofa has a slight edge and being much cheaper I might consider it myself. Thanks Miguel for your offer but I was looking for black leather, the walnut and the chocolate sound to similar to each other.
Just curious to know if...
Just curious to know if anyone has the Wells sofa from Room and Board? It's another one I'm considering. It has that very classic look that would go with anything. It also looks very much like Poltrona Frau's Kenneddee sofa which I just saw in the latest Wallpaper, but Poltrona Frau's sofa is probably 4 times the price of Room and Board's Wells.
General comments
I havethe Neo sofa from DWR, which is similar to the Theatre one. I've had the Neo left-side-chaise sectional and club chair for about 5 years and I am extremely happy with them. The high density foam cushions are wrapped with a down-filled duvet kind of thing which makes them cofy and resilient. The entire upholstery is velcro-ed on and can be removed for cleaning. The upholstery was actually a big selling feature for me. The cotton on the Neo is not going to last in my house with sun-fading and cats, but the easily removed coverings mean I can reupholster them myself later on. As for Room and Roard. I have been buying furniture from them for years. Their quality is good, their customer service is great and the prices are reasonable I recommend them.
My one comment about the sofas you've chosen is probably just my bias, but I don't like the inset legs. To me, they always make a piece look out of balance and I wonder if the sofas will be as sturdy when the legs are not at the corners. I think I'd go with the Case Study.
Theatre & Wells sofa
I am considering the Theatre sofa in leather, It's really nice and comfortable(love at first sit). The Wells is Also very Comfortable and nice, also $1000 cheaper in leather. These two sofas, in my opinion, are much more comfortable than the Modernica(I've never sat on the Goetz). Now that DWR has lowered their prices on shipping, it would only cost you $100 for the Theatre,
I think Room and Board charges about $80. Room and Board and DWR have these on display in San Francisco, try them out. Good Luck!
Case study sofa
'Inside' at 149 Gough in sf has the case study sofas w and w/o arms on display. They look very nicely made and you can provide your own fabric for the cushion covers.
