Was there even a Mulhauser desk chair made with a star base & caster wheels?

Yeah Jes, I know about that...
Yeah Jes, I know about that one. Could've sworn I saw one that resembled his well known lounger. If I recall, it wasn't as big as the lounger...designed specifically as a desk chair..

Found
Well, finally remembered where I saw this went and bought it. Now I'm confused if the base is original. The 4 star base looks like Plycraft (sans caster wheels), but notice the 3 extra holes on either side of the base attachment in second photo? I've been considering the possibility that these holes are manufacturing related.... Anyone?

Neat chair
WoofWoof, If the holes are drilled through with a funnel shaped counter-sink they are where screws would go in to hold the seat cushion on. Its a common sight on the other plycraft chairs. The hole would have a little brass funnel shaped collar to be used with a trumpet head screw (like a sheetrock screw).
However, if the holes are drilled just straight through the wood my guess is that they are present to let air out when someone sits down. If the holes arent present you can get a hissing sound as the air is expelled from the cushions. Classy, right?

Ahhh,
I re-examined the holes, and your right! I shouldn't be so dismissive. Needs some TLC, beforehand...going to oil up the caster wheels and have some fun!

Its a neat chair
Depending on the quality of the finish on the wood you can either clean and wax it, or sand it down some and recoat it with a new poly. A lot of the old varnishes/shellacs turn that hideous amber color that looks like dried honey. IMO it obscures the beautiful qualities of the wood grain.
Can you post some pics of it from a profile view? Its a great looking chair - I'd love to have one if I had the room!

It is !
There are a number of surface scrapes, but nothing deep. With that, I do plan on resurrecting the wood. The color does have some of the amber that you mentioned. Would gladly post a profile for you. Check back later tonight.

Golden
Here's the profile...not exactly pro, but should suffice. If you need a true profile, let me know. Most of the finish has a nice golden sheen to it...
