There's a decent black metal curtain pole in IKEA that would sit more happily than your wooden one.
I saw a rug in there too that I thought I could happily live with, but it isn't on the website..it was wool and had very narrow broken stripes in reds, beiges and mustards

Thanks Robert I'll take a look - the wooden pole was there when I moved in, one of those things I haven't got around to changing yet despite it nagging me!
