Picked up this rosewood credenza by Leif Jacobsen and am hoping to find more info on the piece/designer/manufacturer etc. Have found a few posts online and it seems to be a very rare piece which increases its value but I would really like to learn a bit more on the credenza.
Behind the right door is a filing cabinet which slides out on heavy duty hardware. and on the left side are adjustable drawers.
As far as I know Lief Jacobsen was a Canadian designer/manufacture based out of Toronto. Once had the Canadian license to do Knoll products which is probably why the Toronto City hall was completely furnished by Knoll back when it opened. I believe the mayor's desk is a Leif Jacobsen design.
I have a cool little Leif Jacobsen side table which has that trademark heavy chrome base that seems to appear on all his designs.
The company was indeed purchased from Leif by the Global Group in about 1986. It was then taken over by Teknion (a Global company) until it was closed in about 2002 / 2003.
I work(ed) with the company from 1986 thru various functions with "Leif" and another Global Company Descor Industries(currently).
Various pieces of the Leif brand can still be found around, at what i consider are high prices. The price we pay for "Mid Century" furniture i suppose.
